How To Make a Wet Mount

Wet mounts are actually quite simple to do, if you have the right tool. In order to do a wet mount, you’re going to first need to get a pipette. This will be used to precisely drop water onto your slide. After you’ve gotten a pipette (and your slides, coverslips, and specimen), you’ve pretty much got everything you need.

Step One

You're going to want to place your specimen on your slide, just like you would with a regular dry mount.

Step Two

Place one or two drops of water onto the specimen.

Step Three

You’re going to have to place the coverslip on the specimen without creating air bubbles. In order to do this, place the coverslip vertically so that one side is in place and the other is in the air.

Step Four

Slowly and carefully lower the coverslip completely into place. You can think of this like closing a trapdoor.

Step Five

Secure the coverslip with tape like you would a dry mount. Congratulations, You've made a wet mount!
