Creating Your First Slide
If you’ve never made a microscope slide in your life, you might want to first learn some of the language (here) that you’ll need to know. If you’ve put in the effort to learn the vocabulary, then learning how to make a basic slide should be a piece of cake. To follow along, try using a sheet of printer paper.
Step One
First you’ll want to make sure that your specimen is a good fit for your slide. A good fit could be anywhere from a very small portion of the slide to almost the entire size of the slide in height and about â…“ from side to side.
Step Two
If you think that it’s a good size, place your coverslip on top of your specimen.
Step Three
Tape the coverslip on its left and right sides and that’s it! you’ve made your first slide. Place your slide on the stage, secure it with any clips that your microscope came with and then focus the image. To learn how to focus, look here.
